2015 MATRICS – IT’S TIME TO CHILL OUT IN THE MOUNTAINS!

By the end of the year matric students are completely worn out after putting in hours of study and writing their final exams – time out is all that’s needed. Time in wild nature sleeping out, hiking and resting offers the best way to unplug and what better way to do this than to go hiking on a really wild Matric Chill Out in the mountains of the Western Cape?

The Cape’s leading mountains and trails initiative, the Rim of Africa, together with Hi-Tec and CapeNature, celebrate our matrics this year by offering an awesome new trail experience where matrics go into the wild on a 5 day trail experience to chill out after the exams.

“Although this trail is about fun and celebrating the end of school, it also recognises the rite of passage from school into adulthood in a powerful and meaningful manner,” explains youth trail coordinator, Jess Tyrrell.

“The Rim of Africa Matric Chill Out is a crafted experience led by guides who have mountain skills, a sense of adventure and a capacity to draw out leadership qualities and strengths in each participant, making use of activities to reconnect with themselves in the wild, rejuvenate and have an amazing time.”

“This is simply real time out – away from home, away from the pressures of making decisions of where to next, what to study, what job? It’s time for matrics to just ‘be’ for a while, and connect with the insights that being in nature gives all of us”, explains Tyrrell.

The Rim of Africa Matric Chill Out is a custom trail experience and open to all levels of skill and fitness, with a focus on fun and reconnecting with nature, ourselves and making new friends.

Hi-Tech has sponsored three fully paid places – To book or apply for a sponsored or paid place on the hike visit: www.rimofafrica.org

‘n Unieke aftree juweel.

Kom stap saam as ‘n familie en sluit so die Oujaar af.

‘N VROEË KERSFEES

4

PUT YOUR BROCHURES IN OUR GOODIE BAGS!

It’s that time of the year again where Hessequa Municipality/Tourism welcomes visitors to our region by means of a fully-fledged roadblock. And what fun it is. Our friends at Traffic set up all their cones and cables, and people are always pleasantly surprised when the Mayor pops out and goodie bags are handed out between the cars. If you would like to gain exposure for your tourism business through this initiative, you can send us your marketing material and we’ll include it in the bags that are being distributed. Here are the details:
What: Brochures work well, but also think about vouchers and samples. Maybe you could collaborate with other role-players in your area in order to have a special offer you would like to promote. Maybe you have an upcoming event that needs exposure? Maybe you’re promoting your mountain bike race and you staple the info to a valve cap or piece of tyre in order for it to be more memorable? Thinking outside the box always wins!
How many: We’re packing 300 bags.
When: The event takes place on 11 December 2015, but, your marketing collateral must reach this office no later than Monday, 30 November 2015 for it to be included.
Where: Brochures/items can be dropped off at Hessequa Tourism, 19 Main Road, Riversdale (between Post Office and Spar). Alternatively, you can leave it at your local municipal office, and ask them to send it to Riversdale. Clearly mark for attention Guillaume – Tourism.

For more information you can contact Guillaume on 028 713 7829, or send an email to

SUNE’S … recipe of the week

3

Ingredients:
800 g shrimps
1 teaspoon garlic
3 tablespoons paprika
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon oregano
1 large ripe mango, peeled and diced
1 red pepper, diced
1 red onion, diced
Handful of fresh coriander, chopped
4 tortilla wraps
1 avocado, sliced
150 ml sour cream

Method:
Fry the garlic and shrimp in a splash of oil. The shrimp cooks quite fast – so be sure to sprinkle it with the paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme and oregano in time so it can absorb the flavours. Once cooked, set aside.
For the salsa, mix together the diced mango, red pepper, red onion and chopped coriander.
To assemble your wrap, drop spoonfuls of avocado and sour cream onto your tortilla. Top it with some shrimp and mango salsa and freshly ground black pepper. Enjoy!
