THE GROOT VIS-ETE

article-pic-1

A tradition in Stibaai is the Groot Vis-ete. It is a community event hosted by the Stilbaai Sakekamer to raise money for charity. This year the beneficiaries were Jagersbosch and Still Bay Animal Protection. Both provide an invaluable service in Stilbaai and are NGO’s.
The challenge was to host an event that did not hurt the pocket would provide a decent plate of food and still be able to give to charity. More challenging was to encourage members of the public to buy tickets when half the world is Banting, the other half is allergic to seafood and the remainder is gluten intolerant. We live in difficult times but Still Bay stepped up to the challenge and Friday night saw a full hall.
This year saw a new addition to the event. Art works depicting the event were auctioned with the artwork provided by the children of Melkhoutfontein Primary school. Thanks must go to local auctioneer, Whitey who donated his time and provided us with a light hearted auction which was enjoyed by all.
The starters were bread and rolls with cheese, garlic, olive oil, balsamic, jam and butter. Soon after a lovely, chunky Greek salad arrived at the tables. In between there were lucky draws with over 20 prizes for the winners including a weekend away for 2 nights for four people? The mains were a generous portion of fish, chips and calamari, done to perfection. For those who had space there was a Groen Vlei Pudding with custard. All this for a mere R100.00. Thank you to Jagersbosch who did a fantastic job of the catering.
Without our sponsors the tickets would have been a lot more. We would like to thank the following: Cape Fisheries (Stilbaai) fish and calamari. Just Island Foods (Cape Town) chips, Drie Pikkewyne (Jongensfontein) Jams, butter and lemons, Nardos (Stilbaai) Garlic, Kleinbergskloof (Stilbaai) olive oil, Spar (Stilbaai) Bread and rolls, Allergaartjie (Stilbaai), Pure Audio (Stilbaai) Music, Stilbaai Kwekery- plants, Prizes were sponsored by the following: Kransfontein Farm, Wild Olive Farm, Wateryk Guest Farm, Kiss and Make Up, Hair Palace, Stilfishing, Kleinbergkloof farm, Brain Fraser.
