WESTERN CAPE TO ASSIST MOTORISTS DURING ENATIS TRANSITION PERIOD

Motorists in the Western Cape are advised that renewal notices for motor vehicle licences will not be sent via the South African Post Office while the National Department of Transport (NDOT) is in the process of transferring the Electronic National Traffic Information System (eNatis) to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC). The eNatis system is currently managed centrally at the NDOT, which includes the issuing of Motor Vehicle Licence (MVL) renewal notices. This transition period will directly affect the thousands of motorists in the province who were due to renew their licence disks by the end of September 2015.

Motorists are urged to be pro-active in checking their licence disk renewal status, and ensuring that they renew in time to avoid penalties. The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works will do all we can to assist motorists during this transition period. We have also contacted the RTMC requesting urgent action on this matter so as to ensure that motorists in the Western Cape are not adversely affected by the transition occurring at the national sphere of government.

Affected motorists residing outside of the City of Cape Town can contact the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works at our Provincial Service Centre for assistance on:
• Contact Number:    0860 212 414
• SMS:                            31022
• Please Call Me:        079 769 1207
• Fax:                             021 483 7216
•E-mail: service@westerncape.gov.za
Vehicle owners can also visit their nearest registering authority with their South African Identity (ID) document or valid Driving Licence card, and complete a green ALV form for licence renewal at the counter.

All indications point to more and more motorists being affected by this transition. The National Department of Transport and the RTMC must act quickly to address this matter as a matter of urgency, so that motorists can be informed timeously of the impending expiry of their licence disks.
We will write direct to the RTMC requesting that they honour their commitments to motorists in the Western Cape.
